All the special guests were NASA or Government personnel, except for me and two Philco-Ford personnel who were contractors at the Mission Control Center in Houston TX. We all met the evening before for cocktails, and quality time was spent with all the VIPs and special guests, in-cluding the Apollo 13 crew members Jim Lovel and Fred Haise Jr. Boeing sponsored this “Wings of Heroes’ Gala” at their Museum of Flight on Boeing Field to raise money for space education. Almost two million dollars was raised thru auctions of Apollo 13 and other space memorabilia. Over 1,300 community leaders, patrons, and four actors from the Movie Apollo 13 attended the gala which concluded with dancing to the music of the Harry James Orchestra. All the special guests were given Apollo 13 neck medallions, introduced individ-ually and grouped as part of the Apollo 13 Flight Operation Mission Control Teams. My “White Team” members, headed by Flight Director Mr. Gene Kranz, author of the book “Failure Is Not An Option,” were introduced last because we were at the consoles when the oxygen tank and manifold exploded. We had the fewest team members present due to many deaths and sickness. Neal Armstrong attended this event, which was special for all of us since he rarely attends anything. Thanks to Steve Burns for arranging a Garrett personnel gathering for dinner while in Seattle. I shall always be honored to be a part of the Apollo 13 Team, as well as the Garrett Corporation Team, when teamwork meant something. Thank you all for reading this -- and sometime I may bore you with a four-hour DVD video of the event! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Interested in volunteering – Arizona State Art Museum New Docent Welcome Coffee & Tea, Friday, Sep. 9, 8:30-11:30 am, ASU Art Museum's multi-purpose room. The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn while his wife prefers to read. One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decides to take the boat out. She goes a short distance, anchors and continues to read her book. Along comes a game warden, pulls up along side with his boat and says, “Good morning Ma’am. What are you doing?” “Reading a book,” she replies. “You’re in a restricted fishing area,” he informs her. “I’m sorry officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.” “Yes,” he says, “but you have all the equipment. For all I know your could start fishing at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up.” “If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault,” says the woman. “But I haven’t touched you,” says the warden. “That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.” “Have a nice day, Ma’am,” and he left. MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It’s likely she can also think.

A little boy goes to his father and asks "Daddy, how was I born?"
The father answers: "Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out

A golf course In the mountains of Montana had bears in the surrounding forest. Because the bears would often wander out on the course, the Department of Fish and Wildlife was invited to speak to the members. During this meeting the game warden gave the following advice: Wear noise producing devices such as little bells on your clothing to alert bears to your presence. They should not be startled. Carry a can of pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear. Watch for signs of bear activity. Golfers should learn to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings on the golf course. Black bear droppings are small and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have bells in them and smell like pepper spray. --------- In Memory of our departed friends and co-workers
