George Davis, President, welcomed members and guests to the meeting on January 3, 2007.  Virginia and Bill Waterman led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Jerry Nelson has agreed to be Volunteer Chairman.  The Club would like to acknowledge and thank George Matson, Dick Collins and Will Coe for volunteering to send out e-mail notices of the meetings to our members.

Diane Bennett announced plans for an October Road Trip.  Itinerary includes 4 Corners, Dur-ango, train to Silverton, Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Phoenix.  Contact Diane for more info.

The Club has a new post office box.  See above for this infor-mation.  Please use this new ad-dress from now on.

During the social hour, prior to the meeting, Al Ericson entertained us playing his electronic accordion.  Al is a terrific musician and his ac-cordion is a technical marvel.

Ed Gammill, historian, announced that he now has 2 filing cabinets, and is eagerly awaiting your do-nations of AiResearch/Garrett his-torical information.

Our featured speaker, Jim King, Honeywell Retiree, Gunsmith Extraodinaire, gave an interesting and enlightening presentation on Pennsylvania Rifles and showed how he goes about creating func-tional replicas of some of these his-toric guns.  He also brought several rifles to show the attendees and to display his highly talented crafts-manship.

50/50 winners were Jerry Nelson and John Evans.  In addition, Al Ericson donated 3 copies of his CD “Al Eriksons’s Favorite Christmas Music”.  The CDs were won by Sam Kitaguchi, John Evans and Volker Otto.

This month’s charity donation was given to Lions Foundation of Arizona

Our next meeting will be Wed-nesday, February 7.  Our speaker will be Dr Joe McAuliffe, Director of Research, Desert Botanical Gardens.  He will talk on his recent research resulting in his presentation "The Ghosts of Creosote Bush Past: A Desert Disappearing Act"  His research into 'Desert Pavement’ indicate they are dotted with unusual surface features that provide evi-dence of environmental changes that have occurred over thousands of years.

John Martin is seeking info on the where-a-bouts or contact infor-mation on Roger Heldenbrand.

Reminder - we no longer charge dues for the spouse of couples who are both retirees from AiResearch/Garrett/AlliedSignal /Honeywell.

We are looking for volunteers to bring some of our non-driving West Side members to and from the meetings. If you are willing to help, please contact Al.

Our monthly meetings are held at the Scottsdale Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef, (just north of Mc-Dowell).  The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, September - May, except for December – our Holiday Luncheon. We have a social hour beginning at 1:00 pm, the pre-sentation starts at 2:00 pm and adjournment is at 3:00 pm.

The officers hold their board meetings prior to the regular meeting and all members are invited to attend.  We welcome any input you may have and please send the editor any items that may be of interest to our members.

HELP EACH OTHER

If you need some assistance, e-mail s.mitnik@worldnet.att.net with your need and contact information.

NEWS YOU CAN USE

It is that time of the year to en-courage your family member/ college student to inquire about the HRC Scholarship Program. Each of the three state universities have information on their web sites about their application process. An award of $1000.00 is available at each university annually. Check with the college scholarship office for application deadlines (normally in March). The requirements for application are as follows:

1. The applicant must be a family member of an active member (cur-rent dues paying) or associate member (spouse of deceased ac-tive member) of the Retirees. Family members are defined as children, grand-children, great-grandchildren, etc. of the retiree. On all applications the submitter must include the company, divis-ion, year of retirement, and the cur-rent phone number of the retiree or associate.

2. Only students that will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year are eligible.

3. Students applying must have evidence of cumulative 3.0 or higher grade point average.

4. Applicants must re-apply annual-ly.

5. Receipt of this scholarship does not restrict the student from re-ceiving other scholarships.

6. Students majoring in Science and Technology related fields will be given preference, but if there are no approved applicants in related fields, then all majors will be considered. In the case of equal qualifications, financial need will be the deciding factor.

A LOVE STORY

I shall seek and find you.

I shall take you to bed and have my way with you.

I will make you ache, shake, and sweat until you moan and groan.

I will make you beg for mercy ~ beg for me to stop.

I will exhaust you to the point that you will be relieved when I’m finished with you.

And you will be weak for days.

All my love,

THE FLU

Now get your mind out of the gutter ~ and get your flu shot!!!!!!
