George Davis, President, welcomed members and guests to the meeting on March 7, 2007Gary Bognar led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Next meeting is your last chance to buy tickets for the Spring Roundup.

The current Club board is standing for reelection at the April 4 meet-ing.  Board members typically serve a 2 year term.  The current Vice President then stands for elec-tion as President at the end of the 2 year period.  So early next year we will be looking for candidates for offices listed at the left.  Please think about the opportunity and consider serving your fellow club members.

The Club issues new membership rosters each year.  We would like to remind you to properly destroy (shred) old rosters.  This informa-tion is provided for the sole use of our members so that they may stay in touch with good friends.  We do not wish this information to fall into the hands of solicitation organiza-tions or worse.

Diane Bennett announced plans for an October Road Trip.  Itinerary includes 4 Corners, Durango, train to Silverton, Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Phoenix.  Contact Diane for more info.

The Club has a new post office box.  See above for this informat-ion.  Please use this new address from now on.

Our featured speaker, Betty Blake, WWII “WASP” Pilot held us spellbound with stories about her personal experiences during the attack on Pearl Harbor, as one of the few women of any capacity at  Long Beach NAS during WWII, and her experiences as a ferry pilot during the war.

Next meeting will be Wednesday, April 4.  Our featured speaker will be Emily Burns, Estate Planning Attorney. Her presentation is titled "Try to Take it With You Before You Go..., Updates on Trusts and Estate Planning".  Emily last spoke to us in October 2004.

50/50 winners were Don Caldwell and Dick Schmidt.

This month’s charity donations were given to Arizon Humane Society and the Alzheimer’s Assn.

John Martin is seeking info on the where-a-bouts or contact informa-tion on Roger Heldenbrand.

Reminder - we no longer charge dues for the spouse of couples who are both retirees from AiResearch/Garrett/AlliedSignal /Honeywell.

We are looking for volunteers to bring some of our non-driving West Side members to and from the meetings. If you are willing to help, please contact Al.

Our monthly meetings are held at the Scottsdale Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef, (just north of Mc-Dowell).  The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, September - May, except for December – our Holiday Luncheon. We have a social hour beginning at 1:00 pm, the pre-sentation starts at 2:00 pm and adjournment is at 3:00 pm.

The officers hold their board meetings prior to the regular meeting and all members are invited to attend.  We welcome any input you may have and please send the editor any items that may be of interest to our members.

HELP EACH OTHER

If you need some assistance, e-mail s.mitnik@worldnet.att.net with your need and contact information.

AiResearch/Garrett Historical Information - Ed Gammill, Hist-orian, received a letter from Earl Close, in which Earl outlined some of the his activities with the Garrett Corporation.  He enclosed a narra-tive of his and Roy Ekrom's close relationship and the formation of the Garrett Pneumatics Systems Division in 1980.

He has also received note-books of data from Jack Wrzyszczynski and Al Finkelstein, which are yet to be evaluated.

Several folks have given Ed small quantities of the old AiReporters.  They become more valuable as time goes by!   His contact info is on page 1.

NEWS YOU CAN USE

ARE YOU APPROACHING AGE 70 ½?  DO YOU HAVE A SECURED BENEFIT AC-COUNT?  If so, you need to con-tact Honeywell to determine your options for the distribution of these funds.  Remember, the Secured Benefit Account is ‘qualified’ mon-ey (i.e. you never paid taxes on that money) and the law re-quires distribution from qualified accounts upon reaching age 70 ½.

The Garrett Corporation, some time ago, established a $5,000 death benefit/Life Insurance for each of its employees. The intent was to make it easier for the family to pay burial costs.

It is still in effect today but it in-cludes an option which you might find attractive: $4,500 of the $5,000 may be used to pay for Medical Expenses. The balance of $500, or whatever is left, will be paid at time of the employee death.

This option, called "The 4500 Plan", is administered by Jenny Martinez, the "Honeywell Advo-cate" at CIGNA here in Phoenix. Her phone #: 623-582-4022. You can also call the general Cigna number 1-800-645-7300 or Angelina Mathews at 1-800 220-9249 ext 50312.  However, there is some confusion about eligibility and we are trying to find out the truth and hunt down relevant de-tails.

Please watch this space for further updates

Cathy Marley would like to let her fellow retirees know that she recently published her first book.  Entitled “Peeking Over the Edge…views from life’s middle”, it is a celebration of life’s best half, the years after we turn 50.  Peeking Over the Edge is available through her website, www.CathyMarley.com or at her publisher’s website, www.buybooksontheweb.com.

Medco Drug Insurance,
“December letter”.

The following applies only to those of us who are “of Medicare age” and buy medicine from Medco through the “Medco Drug Insurance”.

I have just been informed by the Honeywell Retiree Advocate that MEDCO has significantly relaxed its policies regarding medications prescribed in quantities (dosages) larger than the “FDA-approved prescribing and safety clinical guidelines” mentioned in the subject “December letter”.

If your prescribed medication(s) exceeds these guidelines and if you have not acted as requested by the subject letter:

- MEDCO will not drop your in-surance coverage for the affected medication(s).

- MEDCO will fill out your pre-scription to the lesser FDA-ap-proved quantities (dosages). Your Drug Insurance will cover this order. If you need the higher quantities your doctor will have to conduct the “Review for approval” requested in the subject letter in order for you to get the higher dosage covered by your Drug Insurance.

Other Stuff

GOOD
In Richardson, a Texas State Trooper was running radar. He had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting any. Then he discovered the problem. A 12 year old boy was standing up the road with a hand painted sign which read "RADAR TRAP A-HEAD!"  The officer later found a young accomplice down the road with a sign reading, "TIPS" and a bucket full of money. (And we used to just sell lemonade!)

BETTER
A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an automated radar post in Plano, Texas. A $40 speeding ticket was included. Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police responded with another mailed photo of hand-cuffs.

BEST
A young woman was pulled over in Austin, Texas for speeding. As the TX State Trooper walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket book, she said, "I bet you are going to sell me a ticket to the Texas State Police Ball."

He replied, "Texas State Troopers don't have balls." There was a moment of silence while she smiled and he realized what he'd just said. He then closed his book, got back in his patrol car and left. She was laughing too hard to
start her car.

ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?

WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m.

ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time?

WITNESS: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy on him!

ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample?

WITNESS: Huh?

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?

WITNESS: No.

ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?

WITNESS: No.

ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?

WITNESS: No.

ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?

WITNESS: No.

ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?

WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.

ATTORNEY: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?

WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.
